Aqua angel
© Kazuha Fukami

1000: Aqua angel (Kazuha)

An enigmatic figure in the foetal position seems to float inside a water-filled cathedral...

The artist Kazuha Fukami has produced a series of fantasy images of swirling figures, mostly women, some with swords, some not. According to her own website (http://kazuppo.net) she was born in Tokushima (on the island of Shikoku) in June of 198x, and likes polar bears, cows, natural minerals and more.

This is almost certainly a brush name: the family name Fukami means "deep-well", and Kazuha ("ten-thousand leaves") is an alternative reading of the name attached to the famous collection of ancient Japanese poems, Man'yōshū.

Water goddess

1000: Water goddess (Kazuha)

A contemporary figure, in modern kimono, nevertheless bears a name referring back to the ancient myths of the Japanese gods, in full Mizuha-no-me-no-kami. Bringer of water, she is rather appropriately carrying a huge bunch of hydrangeas, which are (this time in Western myth) named for their water-carrying seed pods.
