Saint-Lazare Station

204: Saint-Lazare Station (Monet)

Although Monet's chief interest was the play of light and shade in nature, he was also a master at painting smoke and steam. This is one of a number of paintings at this station, which is the Paris terminus for trains from Normandy, where he lived most of his life.

Founder, and master artist of the school of impressionism, Claude Monet (1840 – 1926) spent his life capturing the effects of light in a way never before achieved.
